Spray Coatings

A pasty coating is a spray coating made of powder mixed with water using a machine to produce a paste. This paste is conveyed into a pipe into which compressed air is also injected, making it possible to spray the product at the outlet of the pipe. Promat produces plaster-based coatings, PROMASPAY®-P300 and cement, PROMASPRAY®-C450, which allow these coatings to be used to protect steel, concrete or wood structures against fire.

Fire Stopping

Installation of a firestop system is crucial to maintain the fire resistance of a fire separation that has openings (service penetrations, open cavities or joints) that could allow fire or hot smoke to pass to any other part of the tunnel. Effective fire-stopping in fire resisting separating elements plays a critical role in containing a fire at its source. It is essential that all openings and gaps are fire-stopped to restrict fire spread

Promat provides several integrated and effective fire stopping solutions, including the successful and easy to install PROMASTOP® and PROMASEAL® systems. All the Promat systems and proucts are certified for high fire-resistant rating, are conform to the main international standards and have proven durability.

Structural Protection

Steel loses its loadbearing capacity at a temperature in excess of 550°C during a fire; therefore structural steel protection (e.g. with board, paint, spray etc) is required to preserve the stability of the building structure in the event of fire. All Promat products and systems have been tested at nationally accredited laboratories around the world to a variety of standards, e.g. BS 476: Part 21, AS 1530: Part 4, DIN 4102, ASTM E119 and EN 13381-4.

Fire Stopping

The fundamental premise of modern fire protection is based on the principles of compartmentation. Every building is designed into several fireproof compartments, to prevent or slow the spread of fire and smoke from one compartment to another. Essential building services — water pipes and electrical cables, for example - penetrate compartment walls and ceilings. These have the potential to seriously risk the integrity of the fire compartment, unless special and proven fire stopping systems are employed. Promat fire stopping systems restore the fire compartment to its original levels of fire performance.

Promat provides a number of integrated and effective fire stopping solutions, and these include the successful and easy to install PROMASTOP® and PROMASEAL® systems:

Ventilation & Smoke Extraction

Fire protection requirements for ventilation ducts are directly related to their design function, the nature and behaviour of the fire and the construction materials that fuel the fire load. The fire resistance performance of the ventilation duct itself also plays a critical role. It is possible to prevent fire spread from one fire compartment (e.g. between floors) to another, along stairways and general access corridors only if all building materials and structural elements share a common fire classification and fire resistance rating. Typical steel sheet ducts fail to meet internationally accepted fire protection requirements. They heat and deform rapidly from the effects of fire. In certain circumstances they even accelerate the spread of flame and smoke.

Ventilation ducts up to 120 minutes fire resistance

Sheet steel ducts from an independent manufacturer can be cladded with PROMATECT® fire protection boards or the duct can be fabricated entirely from PROMATECT® fire protection boards.

When existing steel sheet ducts are cladded, for example, with PROMATECT® fire protection boards it is necessary to satisfy additional fire protection requirements for change in use status.

Ventilation ducts are tested according to EN 1366-1 and classified according to EN 13501-3. The classification is completed by ‘(i → o)’, ‘(o → i)’, or ‘(i ↔ o)’ to indicate whether the element has been tested and fulfils the requirements from the inside or outside only or both. Promat solutions in both cases (with or without steel ducts) fulfil the requirements from both sides ‘(i ↔ o)’.

A more economical solution, however, is achieved by specifying and installing tested and proven PROMATECT® ventilation ducts from Promat, the world leader in professional fire science technologies.


Heat and smoke control ducts up to 120 minutes fire resistance

The smoke extraction lines are tested automatically with fire load from both sides.Basically two heat and smoke control ducts can be distinguished:

  • single compartment smoke control ducts, which can be used in one fire section only and are tested according to EN 1366-9 and classified according to EN 13501-4
  • multi compartment fire resistant smoke control ducts, which can be used in any number of fire sections and are tested according to EN 1366-8 and classified according to EN 13501-4


Promat offers solutions without steel ducts for both systems up to 120 minutes fabricated with PROMATECT® fire protection boards.
