A fire in an underground parking space can be extremely dangerous and create huge damage. The growing number of electric cars and electric charging stations has created an urgent need for fire experts to study the dynamics of an underground fire and to come up with solutions to protect people and building structures. This webinar will analyse the specifics of an underground fire and propose real solutions to protect a parking area in case of fire.

Underground parkings are vulnerable areas, as they form horizontal and vertical open shafts that allow the fire to spread. The trend to use more electronics, plastics and batteries in today’s cars creates more potential sources of ignition and increases the fire load whenever a fire occurs. If the underground parking area is part of a high-rise building, the risk is even higher because of the potential propagation of fire through hollow cavities, elevator shafts, stairwells, and utilities. Fires in parking garages can damage the entire building’s structure to such an extent that the building’s structural integrity is compromised, posing a risk of collapse.

This webinar focuses on the passive fire protection of an underground parking, which always must be combined with active protection. The Promat experts teach you more about the importance of compartmentation, structural protection, and smoke extraction.

Our Promat Experts

This webinar will be hosted by Marco Antonelli, Global Training Director of Promat. Through his career at Promat and Etex, Marco has built an amasing amount of expertise in passive fire protection. Today he leads the Minerva Program where he gladly shares his know-how and experience to help architects, building engineers and installers manage any challenge in passive fire protection.

Elzbieta Mazur is Promat’s expert in ventilation and smoke extraction. As the global product manager of Promat ducting systems, she develops new solutions and systems that help architects, engineers and contractors to combat one of the main enemies in case of fire: smoke.
