Promat Powers Ahead with 100% Renewable Electricity Across Global Sites

In 2025, Promat reached a major sustainability milestone: it has now achieved 100% renewable electricity supply across all 12 of its manufacturing sites in Europe, the USA, the UAE, and Japan. This achievement supports Promat’s commitment to decarbonising the construction sector, which is responsible for 39% of global CO₂ emissions, with 11% directly linked to building materials. “Decarbonisation is not just a goal – it’s a necessity,” says Duncan Gardiner, Promat Platform Sustainability and Communications Manager. “It’s at the core of how we make our products and operate our business.”

The switch to renewable electricity, combined with ongoing efforts to electrify manufacturing processes, significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, as electricity accounts for 11% of production energy use and related CO₂, which is now CO₂-free – eliminating market-based Scope 2 emissions. Together, these actions lower the embodied carbon – emissions associated with products throughout their entire lifecycle – making Promat’s fire protection and high-performance insulation solutions even more sustainable.

Promat Powers Ahead with 100% Renewable Electricity Across Global Sites

Promat’s decarbonisation efforts are part of the brand’s broader ClearChange sustainability roadmap. “Step 2 of ClearChange is all about decarbonisation,” Duncan explains. “It means rethinking how we make things – from the energy we use, to the technology and processes behind our products.”

Sourcing renewable electricity is overseen by Etex’s Group Purchasing team, who ensure that energy comes from reliable suppliers and certified systems such as Guarantees of Origin (GOs). These certifications – regulated by the EU and other governing bodies – verify that the electricity used is genuinely renewable and prevent double-counting. “GOs provide the transparency we need,” says Alain Bourgeois, Purchasing Category Manager Energy at Etex. “They’re the only official way to match consumption with verified renewable generation.”

The shift to 100% renewable electricity has been a game-changer for Etex’s Industry division. “I'm proud that every manufacturing site in the division making Promat products across the globe now uses renewable electricity.”

With Scope 2 emissions effectively eliminated, Promat is now working toward reducing Scope 1 emissions, which come directly from operations. A dedicated Decarbonisation team within Promat is helping drive innovation, share best practices, and maintain momentum across the business.

Sustainability isn’t a one-time achievement – it’s a comprehensive approach to our portfolio,” Duncan concludes. “We’re continuously investing in cleaner technologies and smarter processes to go even further.” As part of Etex’s mission to inspire ways of living, Promat is helping lead the construction industry toward a more responsible, low-carbon future – one clear step at a time.
