The Tunnel de Ferney at the Aéroport de Genève underwent beginning 2024 a significant inspection and upgrade to ensure it meets modern fire safety standards. This project is crucial for maintaining the safety and reliability of the airport’s infrastructure. The scope of work includes a thorough examination of the tunnel’s civil engineering structures to assess their condition. Engineers are meticulously identifying the prestressing cables within the tunnel, ensuring that all critical components are accounted for. Additionally, the layout of RWS 90 fire protection panels is being carefully planned to provide optimal fire resistance. To minimize disruption, the pre-cutting and installation work is being conducted during nighttime closures. This approach allows the team to carry out the necessary tasks efficiently while ensuring the tunnel remains operational during the day.
The project is a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders. Genève Airport is the client, with T.INGENIERIE serving as the project manager. The consortium of COLAS Suisse and GTA Group is leading the efforts, ensuring that the work is carried out to the highest standards. Promat has supplied 5 200 m² of PROMATECT®-T fire protection boards, which are being installed with precision. The project involves 45,000 pre-drillings and fixings, requiring 2800 hours ofinstallation work over 30 nights of tunnel closure.
