Planica Nordic Center is a modern ski jumping and cross-country skiing facility in the valley under the Ponce mountains, which lies approx. 2 km west of Rateče. The first competition was held on 4th February 1934 on Bloudek Big Hill. It is synonymous for ski jumping, where many records were broken. On 15th March 1936, Austrian Sepp Bradl, was the first man to jump over 100 meters barrier, landing at 101,5 meters. The current record in Planica is 239 meters.
The Planica Nordic Center project included the reconstruction of ski jumping hills and construction of a cross-country skiing stadium and accompanying facilities. System for artificial snow, ski lifts, athletic and football stadium, cycling and walking trails, cultural heritage park and a new information centre were also a part of the project. The central building is a great architectural achivement and a multi purpose facility which includes a museum and a wind tunnel. The estimated costs for the cross-country center were 15,5 mio. € and additional 24 mio. € for the ski-jumping center.
Promat was proud to be part of this nationally significant infrastructure project, providing circular horizontal glass skylight (walkable type) for the central building of the Nordic Center. PROMAGLAS® fire glazing was used, comprising of 6 glass segments, 66 mm thick and 4,1 meters in diameter - ensuring the demanded REI 60 fire resistance. PROMAGLAS® is a fire-resistant laminated safety glass, which prevents the passage of temperature, fire and smoke. Besides being an optimal solution for fire protection, it also provides light permeability, transparency and a sophisticated modern look and feel.
